Laura Kellams became the Northwest Arkansas director of Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families (AACF) in 2008. In this role, she brings recognition to the challenges children face and builds support for policy solutions that can help all children thrive. Before joining AACF, she was a newspaper reporter for 15 years, mostly at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette covering politics and government. She also served as a journalism fellow on the U.S. Senate Finance Committee as part of the American Political Science Association’s Congressional Fellowship Program. She is a past recipient of the Georgetown Center for Children and Families’ national “Bulldog of the Year” award for her advocacy to extend health coverage to immigrant children in Arkansas. Laura has a journalism degree from the University of Arkansas, and she and her husband, Kyle, have lived in Fayetteville for over 30 years.
